Once these toxins enter the bloodstream, they bind to cluster of differentiation 14 (CD14) on macrophages and monocytes and are recognized by toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4), which exacerbates metaflammation and promotes liver damage, leading to a vicious cycle of hyperglycemia and dyslipidemia [13,14,15,16]. Here, TLR4 is linked to metabolic syndrome.
