In the tumor microenvironment, PD‐L1 that is expressed or overexpressed on the surface of tumor cells binds to PD‐1 targets expressed on the surface of T cells, and thereby inhibits the normal function of T cells and weakens their ability to recognize and respond to tumor cells, leading to tumor immune escape and formation of an immunosuppressive microenvironment.14 The gene discussed is CD274; the disease is neoplasm.
