Also known as the mango, this member of the poison ivy and sumac family (Anacardiaceae) is a flowering plant whose active chemical (mangiferin, 50 mg/kg) and extract (50, 100, or 250 mg/kg) have been shown by Rivera et al. to decrease Th2 cytokines and inflammation in the airways in the mouse allergic asthma model via reducing IgE, IL-4, and IL-5 in the serum and BALF in comparison to dexamethasone [106].
