While blood glucose level and body weight were comparable in hyperglycemic WT and F12-/- mice after 24 weeks of persistent hyperglycemia (Supplementary Fig. S2d, e), the latter group displayed improved kidney function, as indicated by reductions in the urinary albumin/creatinine ratio (UACR), blood urea nitrogen (BUN), and normalized kidney weight (Fig. 2c–e).
