Among the nine α-subunit-coding genes, variants in sodium voltage-gated channel alpha subunit type 1 (SCN1A, which encodes NaV1.1) have been reported to be associated with several human neurological disorders, such as autism spectrum disorder, epilepsy and hemiplegic migraine (Meisler et al., 2021). This evidence concerns the gene SCN1A and familial or sporadic hemiplegic migraine.
