Notably, the maintenance of immunological self-tolerance highly relies on Treg suppressive functions as unveiled by the lethality of Foxp3-/- murine model (124, 125) and the Foxp3 mutation in humas leading to immune dysregulation, polyendocrinopathy, enteropathy and X-linked (IPEX) syndrome ultimately resulting in death during infancy (126). Here, FOXP3 is linked to polyendocrinopathy.
