RANKL is responsible for osteoclast activation by connecting the RANK and initiating bone resorption.65A previous study found an increase in soluble RANKL concentration levels in individuals with periodontitis compared with healthy controls.66In the present study, the concentration of RANKL was significantly decreased at the second recall visit compared with the baseline level in each study group, with a nonsignificant difference between the three groups.
