UCP1 and metabolic disease: Accumulated evidence suggests that non‐shivering thermogenesis restores energy balance by promoting lipolysis and dissipating energy as heat rather than through ATP synthesis, in both Uncoupling protein 1 (Ucp1)‐dependent and Ucp1‐independent manners.[1, 2, 3, 4, 5] Therefore, brown and beige adipose tissues, collectively termed thermogenic adipose tissues, are increasingly recognized as distinctive targets for the alleviation of metabolic diseases associated with obesity.
