A study has demonstrated that luteolin can induce a lethal endoplasmic reticulum stress response and mitochondrial dysfunction in glioblastoma cells by increasing intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels (Wang et al., 2017).In addition, luteolin also acts as a radiosensitizer in non-small cell lung cancer cells by enhancing apoptotic cell death through activation of a p38/ROS/caspase cascade (Cho et al., 2015). The gene discussed is MAPK1; the disease is glioblastoma.
