COVID-19 develops a cytokine storm, an uncontrolled systemic inflammatory response due to the deliverance large amounts of proinflammatory cytokines (IFN-α, IFN-γ, IL-1β, IL-2, IL-6, IL-7, IL-10, IL-12, IL-18, IL-33, TNF-α, TGFβ, CCL2, CCL3, CCL5, CXCL8, CXCL9, and CXCL10), Granulocyte-colony stimulating factor (GCSF), monocyte chemoattractant protein 1, and macrophage inflammatory protein 1α, which contribute to myocardial injury, acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), lungs damage and fibrosis. Here, IL33 is linked to acute respiratory distress syndrome.
