Sox10 is superior to S100 as a molecular marker in terms of sensitivity and specificity for the differential diagnosis of schwannoma and fibrous meningiomas.[15,16] Studies have also shown that Sox10 is more specific than S100 for tumors of neural crest origin: Sox10 (99% specificity) and S100 (91% specificity).[17] The combined use of Sox10 and S100 helps to improve the sensitivity and specificity of schwannoma diagnosis.
