Regarding glucose transporters, we observed the up-regulation of solute carrier family 2 member a 1 (Slc2a1; Glut1) accompanied by concomitant down-regulation of Slc2a4 (Glut4) in FH hearts supporting insulin resistance and increased unregulated glucose uptake in the face of permanent hyperglycaemia in the remodelled myocardium of FH. Here, SLC2A1 is linked to familial hyperaldosteronism.
