EIF4E and head and neck carcinoma: A study has shown that the use of small interfering RNAs to knock down eIF4E in head and neck carcinomas leads to a decrease in cyclin D1 protein levels and inhibition of cell growth.77 When studying immortalized normal cells, Chakravarti et al. showed that all eIF4E proteins were downregulated after treatment with curcumin, which correlated with decreased cyclin D1 protein expression and inhibition of cell growth.
