Although there is an apparent correlation between epilepsy and markers of oxidative damage to biological macromolecules, it is difficult to draw a credible and definitive conclusion about the impact of epilepsy on other markers of oxidative stress, including the activities of antioxidant enzymes (SOD, CAT, GPx, and GR), nitric oxide (NO) levels, and glutathione (GSH) concentrations, as the results from a number of published clinical studies are inconsistent [9,11,13,21]. This evidence concerns the gene CAT and epilepsy.
