The impact of analgesic and surgical methods on the tissue levels of two representative cytokines, TNF and IL-10, which span the pro- and anti-inflammatory spectra, was demonstrated in an experimental study in which laparoscopic surgery for colorectal cancer surgery was linked to lower values of IL-10, TNF, and mast cells in the mucosa of the tissue surrounding the tumor, regardless of the method of perioperative analgesia. Here, TNF is linked to colorectal cancer.
