Of the 16 molar ratios which may reflect the balance between HSD17B3 and AKR1C3 on the one hand and HSD17B2 on the other, 10 are lower, 5 are not significantly different, and 1 is higher in patients compared to controls (p = 0.007, Mann–Whitney test), suggesting a significant trend towards blunted conversion of 17-oxo androstanes to their 17β-hydroxy counterparts in the context of schizophrenia. This evidence concerns the gene HSD17B2 and schizophrenia.
