Notably, among the ophthalmological variables, IL-5, G-CSF, and CCL11/eotaxin-1 concentrations were newly identified as tear inflammatory mediators predictive of the coexistence of T2DM after controlling for other prevalent cardiovascular risk factors (i.e., hypertension, hypercholesterolemia, obesity, smoking, sex, and age). Here, IL5 is linked to obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
