Notably, among the ophthalmological variables, IL-5, G-CSF, and CCL11/eotaxin-1 concentrations were newly identified as tear inflammatory mediators predictive of the coexistence of T2DM after controlling for other prevalent cardiovascular risk factors (i.e., hypertension, hypercholesterolemia, obesity, smoking, sex, and age). This evidence concerns the gene CCL11 and obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
