Beginning with the function of thrombospondin-1 (TSP1), a well-known inhibitor of angiogenesis that is frequently silenced in a variety of cancers, including melanoma, other authors [24] investigated whether it would be possible to reverse the silencing of the TSP1 gene by treating melanoma cells with 5-Aza-deoxycytidine (5-Aza-dC), a demethylating agent, thereby reducing the angiogenesis by decreasing DNMT1 levels. This evidence concerns the gene DNMT1 and melanoma.
