Related to this, the relationship between sporadic ALS and PON1 activity has been investigated by different studies that have shown a possible role of defects in PON1 gene in the development of ALS [13], having identified up to seven mutations of the PON gene that are predicted to alter the function of PON in patients with both familial and sporadic ALS [7]. Here, PON1 is linked to amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
