As p53 is frequently mutated in glioblastoma34 and the effect of METTL1 expression on the survival rate of glioma/glioblastoma could be dramatically affected by p53 mutation (Fig. 1b and Supplementary Fig. 1b), we selected several representative glioblastoma cell lines with different TP53 status to study the effects of m7G methylation on TP53 transcript35–37: U87MG and A172 express wildtype p53.
