Consistent with our results, it has been reported previously that the impairment of TFEB promotes mitochondrial ROS production, while the activation of TFEB with gemfibrozil, an activator of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-alpha (PPARα), which is usually used for the treatment of hypercholesterolemia, leads to the induction of autophagy and reductions of oxidative stress [74]. This evidence concerns the gene TFEB and familial hypercholesterolemia.
