Firstly, breast tumors in BRCA mutation carriers have long been reported to show poorer prognostic features than wild-type patients; for example, BRCA1 mutant tumors tend to be a higher grade and are more frequently triple-negative, although this is less marked and less consistently observed in the literature for BRCA2.34,35 Our study may be limited in terms of patient numbers, and in particular in mutations in BRCA1 that are reported to show the stronger differences, to draw a confident conclusion.
