After the Dapagliflozin and Prevention of Adverse Outcomes in Heart Failure (DAPA-HF) trial [7] and the Empagliflozin Outcome Trial in Patients with Chronic Heart Failure and a Reduced Ejection Fraction (EMPEROR-Reduced) [8] that demonstrated significantly reduced HF events or cardiovascular (CV) mortality, sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitors (SGLT2i) were introduced in the 2021 European Society of Cardiology guidelines for treatment of HFrEF patients [9]. This evidence concerns the gene SLC5A2 and hydrops fetalis.
