TP53 and cancer: The tumor suppressor gene tumor protein p53 (TP53) plays a role in regulating mitochondrial respiration and controlling cellular metabolism.[50] TP53 inhibits the transcription of glucose transporter (GLUT) isoforms 1 and 4, reducing GLUT3 expression through the IκB kinase‐nuclear factor (NF)‐κB pathway.[51] Consequently, the loss of TP53 gene function significantly contributes to the manifestation of the Warburg effect in cancer cells.[52]
