NSUN2 and infection: Zhang et al. observed that in infections with RNA viruses (such as respiratory syncytial virus, vesicular stomatitis virus, human metapneumovirus, and Sendai virus) and DNA viruses (including HSV), NSUN2 diminished the levels of specific non-coding RNAs, particularly RPPH1 and 7SL RNAs, and altered the level of m5C methylation, which directly or indirectly regulated type I interferon (IFN) responses mediated by the retinoic acid-inducible gene I pathway and therefore enhanced antiviral responses (Zhang et al., 2022).
