LGR5 and neoplasm: Subsequent work established murine Lgr5 as a pre-eminent molecular marker of stem cells in the intestinal epithelia (Koo and Clevers, 2014), gastric epithelia (Barker et al, 2010), hair follicle (Snippert et al, 2010), foetal mammary gland (Trejo et al, 2017), nephrons in the developing kidney (Barker et al, 2012) the regenerating liver (Huch et al, 2013) and as tumour initiating cells in the small intestinal epithelia (Schepers et al, 2012).
