Several pro-angiogenic (VEGF, Ang-2, PIGF, sVCAM-1, MCP-1, MMP-3, CHI3L1, IL-8 and CXCL16) and ECM-degrading (MMP-2 and MMP-7) proteins are known to be elevated after colorectal cancer resection [8], but in relation to postoperative complications such research remain scarce. The gene discussed is CXCL8; the disease is colorectal cancer.
