Intake of a pro-inflammatory diet (higher DII score) was associated with elevated levels of various inflammatory markers: TNF-α, highly sensitive C-reactive protein (hsCRP), IL-1, 2, 6, IFN-γ and vascular cell adhesion molecules (37–39), moreover, adding one DII scoring unit in men increased hsCRP by 9% (95%CI 0.03–0.14) and IL-6 by 6% (95%CI 0.02–0.11) in patients with first-time myocardial infarction (40). This evidence concerns the gene TNF and myocardial infarction.
