NF2, also known as Merlin, acts as a tumor suppressor and mutations in the NF2 gene lead to neurofibromatosis type 2 disease, which is characterized by the occurrence of bilateral vestibular schwannomas and other central nervous system tumors (Rouleau et al, 1993; Trofatter et al, 1993).
