NOS2 and Sepsis: NO is generated through the oxidation of L-arginine by NO synthase (NOS), which is expressed in cardiomyocytes.[54] Overexpression of inducible NOS (iNOS) is a key factor in vasodilation and hypotension during shock.[55] In sepsis, excessive activation of iNOS in cardiomyocytes and immune cells leads to the production of circulating NO, which negatively impacts myocardial contractile function.[56]
