Tumor necrosis factor α (TNF‐α), interleukin 6 (IL‐6), and IL‐1β were upregulated in the aging cochleae (Lyu et al., 2020; Verschuur et al., 2012), supporting the notion that inflammaging may be an underlying mechanism for AHL. This evidence concerns the gene IL6 and acute hemorrhagic leukoencephalitis.
