WFDC12 has been demonstrated to play an immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory role through the inhibition of neutrophil elastase (Andrade et al., 2021), and is upregulated in lesional psoriatic skin, wounds, scars (Wang et al., 2019; Zhao et al., 2022), epididymitis in mice (Andrade et al., 2021), and human intestinal epithelial cells under Giardia infections (Rojas et al., 2022).
