Although no patients were included in this study, we would like to initiate a discussion or future research direction on the use of anti-Hsp70 autoantibodies as a potential “biomarker” in the diagnosis or prediction of autoimmune diseases characterized by an increased titer of anti-Hsp70 autoantibodies in the serum (e.g., rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, dermatitis herpetiformis or coeliac diseases) using biological samples, such as saliva or urine. The gene discussed is HSPA1A; the disease is systemic lupus erythematosus.
