Only a single study has explored LFABP levels in patients with biopsy-confirmed NAFLD, and it reported weak positive correlations with histological parameters.23 Another study on NAFLD patients diagnosed based on elevated transaminases and steatosis detected through ultrasonography found higher LFABP levels in NAFLD patients compared to healthy subjects.24 This evidence concerns the gene FABP1 and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease.
