Pediatric vertebral fractures are extremely rare in the absence of trauma (17), but studies have shown that in the 6 years following GC initiation, with vertebral fractures occurred in one-third of children with leukemia and 16% of children with rheumatic conditions (4, 7) and up to 75% of boys with GC-treated DMD (18). The gene discussed is DMD; the disease is leukemia.
