Through a study conducted on GBM biopsies and cell lines, Ding and colleagues showed that miR-223 acts as an onco-suppressor by inhibiting cell proliferation and migration by downregulating its direct target, NLRP3 (involved in the inflammasome formation), and, consequently, the NLRP3-associated pro-inflammatory cytokines (IL-1β, MCP-1, IL-18 and IL-8) and the pro-inflammatory mediator caspase 1 [190]. Here, NLRP3 is linked to glioblastoma.
