Transmembrane metalloproteinases MMP-14, MMP-15 and MMP-16 have been found to be significantly expressed in tumor-transformed tissue in renal cell carcinoma and to be present in urine samples from the same patients [25]; however, no reports have been published on their expression in renal cell carcinoma. The gene discussed is MMP14; the disease is hereditary clear cell renal cell carcinoma.
