FUCA1 and cancer: Multiple lines of evidence have also supported the notion that fucosidases are involved in cancer progression and metastasis, as follows: (1) ectopic expression of FUCA1 in samples having low endogenous levels of FUCA1 significantly attenuates the invasiveness of cancer cells; (2) transient FUCA1 knockdown results in the loss of cell–cell contact; and (3) prolonged FUCA1 knockdown leads to increased cancer cell proliferation, invasion and migration [125].
