There are two kinases at the core of the DDR, ATM (ataxia telangiectasia mutated) and ATR (ataxia telangiectasia and Rad3 related), which are particularly activated in response to single and double-strand DNA breaks, orchestrating a complex mechanism that encompasses the entire spectrum from damage detection to repair initiation [15,16].
