Intracellular Ca2+ increase in astrocytes in the brain is mainly mediated by type 2 inositol 1,4,5‐trisphosphate receptors (IP3R2).[6c] To determine whether IP3R2 knockout in astrocytes in adult mice has any effect on innate anxiety‐like behaviors, we generated astrocyte‐specific IP3R2 conditional knockout mice (CKO mice) by expressing Cre recombinase under the control of an astrocyte‐specific gfaABC1D promoter in the vHPC of IP3R2loxp/loxp mice (Figure2A,B), and then anxiety‐like behaviors were tested (Figure 2C).
