As an inflammasome sensor, NLRP12 initiates pyroptosis in response to infections by Yersinia pestis (Vladimer et al., 2012), Plasmodium chabaudi (Ataide et al., 2014), and Toxoplasma gondii (Znalesniak et al., 2017; Rajabi et al., 2022), which results in the secretion of IL-1β and IL-18 and a reduction in the pathogen burden.
