In a COVID-19 outbreak, about 1-2 weeks after onset, some infected patients suddenly worsen and develop acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), followed by shock, late-stage tissue perfusion disorders, and finally due to Multiple organ failure and its exacerbation mainly caused by very high pro-inflammatory cytokines (cytokine storm), very low levels of lymphocytes, especially natural killer (NK) cells in the peripheral blood, and C-reactive protein (CRP)(27). Here, CRP is linked to acute respiratory distress syndrome.
