The combination of MPA with an inhibitor of dsRNA-dependent protein kinase, which plays a role in connecting two cachectic signaling molecules to reduce synthesis and increase degradation of skeletal muscle protein, resulted in an increase in the wet weight of the gastrocnemius muscle and blood glucose, as well as a decrease in serum triglyceride, TNF-α, and IL-6 in cancer cachexia in mice (Chen et al., 2012).
