However, CETP inhibitors have always been a controversial topic that previous clinical trials reported it increased risk of major coronary heart disease events (56) due to the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RASS) (57), meanwhile, as overactivated RASS system is also associated with MIF (58), some studies suggested that the CETP inhibitors were theoretically increased MIF risk, which is consistent with our current finding.
