C-reactive protein, interleukin 6, and fibrinogen levels were all considerably higher in these individuals after controlling for smoking and body mass index.50 Although there was an increased incidence of conditions such hypertension, dyslipidemia, diabetes, obesity, and metabolic syndrome, these conditions alone cannot fully explain the higher risk shown in this cohort. This evidence concerns the gene IL6 and obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
