RETN and Obesity: Resistin levels are increased in patients with sepsis and are associated with mortality independent of BMI in patients with sepsis.(39,40)Resistin levels are greater in patients with COVID-19 than in healthy controls,(41) and resistin is correlated with disease severity and outcome, irrespective of the presence of obesity or metabolic syndrome.(14, 42,43)Our results are consistent with these previous findings: resistin levels were greater in patients with WHO category 7 disease, independent of BMI, but did not predict mortality.
