Although in 1972 Yamaga et al. (40) originally proposed that the in vivo generation of both CaF2 and Ag(I)-phosphate complexes may account for the arrest of dental caries and the hardening of carious lesions, a little later Suzuki et al. (41) confirmed the production of CaF2 by equilibrating/mixing SDF solution with an enamel powder, although it is important to note that the quantity of CaF2 formed diminished markedly so when these agents were submerged into an artificial saliva preparation. This evidence concerns the gene CNOT8 and dental caries.
