Research indicates the importance of molecular mimicry in CHIKV-induced arthritis, revealing immune epitopes shared with human proteins linked to arthritis, such as FLT1, KDR, TIE1, PADI4, FCRL3, PTPN22, and CSK, and suggesting that antibodies targeting these epitopes may contribute to autoimmune responses in CHIKV infection, particularly in the context of arthritis, urging further exploration with suitable animal models (Ding et al., 2021). Here, FLT1 is linked to arthritic joint disease.
