piR-823 is a novel modulator of cancer stem cells (CSCs) in luminal BC since suppression of piR-823 significantly reduced the growth of tumors and the proliferation of cancer cells both in vitro and in vivo by controlling DNMTs expression and by increasing the DNA methylation levels of tumor suppressor genes like adenomatous polyposis coli (APC), consequently, activating the WNT signaling pathway, which in turn induces cancer stemness in BC (Ding et al. 2021).
