Overexpression of c-Myc in β-cells has been associated with the development of diabetes (Laybutt et al., 2002; Cheung et al., 2010), while reduction in c-Myc expression in intestinal cells was shown to improve high-fat-diet-induced obesity and insulin resistance (Luo et al., 2021). The gene discussed is MYC; the disease is obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
